Kosovo is a Hit for Developing Pop Stars

Take for instance pop music. While you may not be a fan of this genre, that doesn’t mean you haven’t heard some of the latest stars forge an impression and a reputation in the pop world, including Rita Ora, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha and Era Istrefi. When was the last time you thought of talented artists like these and considered Kosovo their home? Never? Well, it’s just the beginning. In a few short years, Kosovo may very well be the cultural, sports and workforce centre of Europe!

So, how has it happened that a small country like Kosovo is gaining a reputation in Europe for producing some of the world’s newest and youngest talents, and at the same time, the countries we often think of first are no longer producing the household names and the next big stars? How can those so talented in their fields emerge from the middle of nowhere where the support for young talent is so lacking? Quite simply, how is Kosovo doing it?

It may be partly a dedication to succeed and partly a glimpse at real, raw talent, but there is no doubt something is happening, not in Hollywood or Abbey Road, but in places like Kosovo. It’s happening where no one would ever believe it could happen. It’s self-made entrepreneurial star power in the making, with a hunger to succeed when all the odds are against it. These pop stars have another thing in common—they are self-made without any reliance on agents or music companies. All they need is a microphone, an account on YouTube, and the dedication to succeed. Ignoring true studio sound, they operate out of their bedrooms with nothing to lose and everything to gain. They’ve told the world they are going to make it big, and many are proving their point.

Kosovo Athletes with a Winning Edge

But there’s more talent out there than future pop stars. Other emerging talent includes athletes and tech pioneers. Let’s check out the Swiss National Football team for example. Many members of that team came from Kosovo, and yet few people know about it. If it wasn’t for Kosovan players, the Swiss team would never be where they are today. For many of these team members, the road to success in sports was long and difficult, but they worked hard, had the talent, and they were willing to beat the odds. And they have.

ESPN recently labelled Kosovo as the next Brazil of the Balkans. A few years ago, no one would have ever thought that Kosovo provided so many talented football stars in such a short period of time. They began their athletic careers and made their mark all over Europe. Their contributions are immense and formidable, including unbeaten games and yes, even championships.
